Ruth's Genealogy

“I don't know who my grandfather was; I am much more concerned to know what his grandson will be.” -Abraham Lincoln

Started reviewing my grandfather’s records today.

Victor Earl Hall was a land developer in Tarrant County in the 1970’s. The Tarrant County web site shows a total of 96 real estate documents, most with the actual downloadable images, involving Victor and/or wife Agnes (my step-grandmother) from 1970 through 1985. Victor died in 1974, so many of the later documents deal with his estate.

I knew my grandfather was in real estate, so I’m not surprised to see so many documents. There are probably many more than that didn’t make the website.

What to do with all of these documents? Do I really need to download each and every image? What genealogical data is to be found here?

Well, for one thing, Victor Hall’s signature is shown on most of the documents. That’s pretty personal and significant!

His address is also on most of the paperwork, too. As these documents span a 15-year period, those addresses are significant. I can remember as a child visiting at least 2 separate homes that they lived in, but I really don’t remember how to get to those locations. I’m sure that I would recognize them, though… ROAD TRIP!!! Thanks to those online images and MapQuest, I can now return to the homes that I have not seen in almost 40 years! (Hope the present owners don’t have any large and ill-mannered dogs!)

So I guess what I’ll have to do is examine each and every online document and download examples of those that contain significant genealogical data: his signature, Agnes’ signature, their personal address, and anything else I find that might document his life events.

I also found Victor and 2nd wife Agnes’ marriage in an online Denton County Marriages Index. I already had this date, this is just another source.

Also I found numerous instances of Victor’s first wife Mamie (my grandmother) in Ancestry’s City Directories from 1935 through 1945, each time she is listed as Mrs. Mamie Hall, living back with her parents. I found Victor in none of these directories. What this does is narrow the window for their divorce and the window for Mamie’s second marriage to my step-grandfather. Helpful.
